Emmy’s 2018: Best and Worst Dressed

Another awards show and another opportunity for celebrities to get dolled up and show us what they think – or rather their stylists – think style is! This time around we were at the 70th Emmy Awards, celebrating television and media.

I have to be honest, I was a little disappointed in the fashion this year. There were, of course, the surprises we all love from the likes of Jenifer Lewis showing up in trainers and joggers on the red carpet, but overall there weren’t any dresses that stood out to me as amazing, and certainly more fails than wins!

Best Dressed

#1: Keri Russell – 8 out of 10

I love Keri’s dress, the colour makes her paler skin look incredible and I love the feather peplum with the high slit.

#2: Scarlett Johanssen – 9 out of 10

Scarlett looks stunning alongside her beau, Colin Jost, with a simple and elegant dress showing off her great figure.

#3: Jenifer Lewis – 10 out of 10

Stick it to the man, Jenifer! I’m a massive fan of the gorgeous dresses and suits on the red carpet, but I couldn’t get over how amazing Jenifer Lewis looked in a Nike sweater, joggers and trainers. A true starlet showing us that you don’t have to be prim and proper to make a statement and to be true to your style.

70th Emmy Awards - Arrivals

#4: Noah Schnapp and Gaten Matarazzo – 9 out of 10

These two Stranger Things stars looked so adorable and stylish in their unique suits. It’s so nice to see young stars being true to themselves and not falling into the hands of ‘do what I say’ stylists’.

#5: Dean Cole: 8 out of 10

Dean’s look was slated by USA today for looking like pyjamas, but I think he looks unique and really dapper.

Worst Dressed

#1: Millie Bobbie Brown: 5 out of 10

A lot of magazines and news outlets have praised Millie’s dress, and while the colour suits her, I think the pattern makes her look old and the shape makes her look short – especially when you look at how cool she looked in Maroon 5’s ‘Girl Like You’ video!

#2: Tracee Ellis Ross: 3 out of 10

Another one that was praised, especially by the New York Post. I’m all up for haute couture but this dress looked more like bedsheets – and creased ones at that. The colour is about the only thing I like about this dress.

#3: Laura Dern: 3 out of 10

Laura looks more like a Victorian grandmother than a stunning woman in this dress. The colour washes her out and the style, while it looks nice at the top, just gets worse as you go down the gown.

#4: Taraji P. Henson: 5 out of 10

I’m not overly angry at this dress – I think the top silhouette suits Taraji and I like the colour and print, but it’s a bit much all over, and the puffiness of the dress makes her look larger than she is. The extreme short front and lengthy back isn’t a flattering look.

#5: Alexis Bledel: 2 out of 10

Whoever told Alexis that pink and vomit yellow was a good colour combination on any skin tone, let along her skin tone, shouldn’t be in fashion. This dress is both boring and interesting (not in a good way) all at the same time.

#6: Connie Britton: 2 out of 10

Connie might be in her 50s (just), but her stylist certainly made everyone know it. This dress looks more ‘Mother of the Bride’ than red carpet.

Who do you think wore it best – and worst at this year’s Emmy Awards?
